Today on 'The Oprah Winfrey Show,' Bret Michaels opened up about his recent health struggles for the first time.

Bret Michaels says, very plainly, that “I’m lucky to be alive and I’m not sure yet what the purpose is for keeping me alive, but without question, I’m lucky to be alive right now!” Michaels goes on to explain to Oprah exactly what happened during those early morning hours when he suddenly heard a pop, something akin to a gun shot, and then a sharp pain from his temple down to his ear drum – and he knew something was seriously wrong.

On April 21, the rocker was hospitalized with a brain hemorrhage. "I've never been shot, thank God, but I can tell you this: It sounded like a small handgun went off in the back of my head. They call it a thunderclap, and I've never instantaneously had a headache like that in my entire life. The word's not even a headache. It's like a migraine times 10,"

The singer, 47, suffered a subarachnoid hemorrhage last month, just weeks after having surgery on his appendix.

The Poison frontman told talk show queen Oprah Winfrey “If Im going out, I want to go out rockin,”.

Michaels says he will resume his tour at the end of this month.
